Senior IMPACT Project Guidelines
In order to receive credit for being in the Sprayberry High School Leadership, Law, and Public Service Academy, all students must complete the Senior Impact Project prior to Spring Break of their Senior Year. Your Impact Project must be in keeping with the ideas of scholarly research and community service involvement which exemplifies the true purpose of a Social Science education. Your Impact Project may follow one of three pathways described below:
1. The Community Impact Project Involvement Pathway:
1. To complete this Impact Project Pathway you must volunteer your time and effort toward a cause that will improve the lives of people in our local community. (Defined as an area as small as the Sprayberry HS community or as large as the area of Cobb County). Or you may create something of benefit to the community through a non-profit organization, a local church, or governmental institution.
2. Research component- You must write a five page (minimum) research paper addressing the activity in which you were involved. Included in this paper will be: A history of the organization you were working with, a history of the specific activity, a description of the goal the organization has related to your activity, and your direct involvement and contributions to the organization that worked toward achieving that goal and how you made an IMPACT. **Verification of the student’s involvement/ impact/contribution required**
2. The Community Impact Research Presentation Pathway.
To complete this pathway you must research and write a 10 page research paper on a topic related to local history and create a presentation that showcases the impact of the event on local history. The following guidelines apply:
1. The topic must be approved in advance and address a subject that has had an impact on the local community
2. It must follow the specific formatting and citation guidelines given out at the time of the topics approval.
3. You must interview at least five local scholars or people who lived through the historical event topic and who have relevant knowledge of the event. (Prior approval of these individuals must be granted by your advisor.)
4. You must use at least ten different written sources that discuss your topic and at least 4 of them should be primary source documents.
3. The Community Oral History Impact Interview and Paper Pathway
To complete this pathway you must complete a life interview with a Senior Citizen (60 or older) currently living in Cobb County and write a 10-15 page interview report that summarizes the impact of this person’s life on the community. The following rules apply to this research pathway:
1. You must submit a detailed list of questions that you will ask this person regarding various historical, social, and personal events that took place during their lifetime and the impact they had on the community. These questions must cover the person’s childhood, young adulthood, middle, age, and later life.
2. You must either video record or audio record your interview sessions and these must be turned in with the paper.
3. The person being interviewed cannot be someone who has been interviewed before for this project or who is being interviewed by someone else.
